Dark rooms with light seeping through venetian blinds, alleys cluttered with garbage, a lone house on a beach at the end of a winding road, abandoned warehouses where dust hangs in the air, rain soaked alley ways with water still running in the gutters, low lit detective offices with “Investigations” stenciled on the door overlooking busy streets…this is the world of Film Noir: a place where desperation and helplessness, danger and desire meet in smoke filled shadows. Characters try to elude some mysterious past that continues to haunt them, tease them, and hunt them down. Meet the world weary detective, the crooked lawyer, the gangster’s moll, the well-heeled villain surrounded by his gun-toting henchmen, the seemingly innocent ingénue, the grifter-assassin, the shady casino owner, the sweet talking dame who is trouble with a capital T, the good guy who has seemingly made one bad turn, the dangerously alluring femme fatale the hero is not sure whether to rescue or arrest….
Speak Me Deadly is a special event featuring music, performance, film and poetry in celebration of the theme and styles of Film Noir. Bar Nancy Courtyard, Tuesday 13th September 7.30 pm.
