Dina Gerolymou came to Australia from Greece in 1992 carrying a backpack full of poetry books and some music records. Her writing took a back seat while she learned English, studied journalism, history and education, had two children, worked three jobs and rescued stray kittens but it’s coming along the last couple of years. She’s involved with World Poetry, the Society of Women Writers and is on the committee of the Greek-Australian Cultural League. Her first appearance on the poetry scene was at Overload Poetry Festival’s 2010 Screening the Word. Ever since she’s been publishing her poetry online. She can be found on the blog perpetualresidence.wordpress.com where poems in Greek and English live independently and in utter peace rather than in translation. Regarding her bilingual writing Dina says: “when the Muse knocks on my door I don’t ask what language she speaks, I just open the door”. She draws inspiration from L.Cohen, G.G Marquez, C.P Cafavy and Niko Kavvadia.
