Sean M Whelan writes for paper, performance and pixels. He also works extensively with musicians. His band The Interim Lovers released an album called Softly & Suddenly in October 2010. Softly & Suddenly is loosely based on Lewis Carroll’s famous nonsense poem, The Hunting of the Snark, but reimagining it as a love story. He has recently begun collaborating with electronic musician Isnod. They were commissioned to record a piece together for the Japanese/Australian journal Red Leaves, called They Don’t Love Blue. Sean was one of the writers of the world premiere sell out season of Elemental, bringing poetry to the Melbourne Planetarium as part of the 2009 International Arts Festival. In 2010 Sean was the winner of the Moving Galleries People’s Choice Award, a program that puts poetry and artworks onto the walls of Melbourne’s trains. Sean has recently begun working as a ‘Super Poet’, bringing poetry into schools through the Australian Poetry organisation. His latest book is titled Tattooing the Surface of the Moon and was published by Small Change Press.
